The Man
Pastor Conway Cornelius Johnson, Jr. is a native of Jamesburg, New Jersey. He was born on March 12, 1975 to Mrs. Minnie Johnson and the late Mr. Conway C. Johnson, Sr. He has five siblings of which he is the only boy. Pastor Johnson is happily married to the former Nakia Walker and together they are the proud parents of Natayja, Dejaun and Zion.  Their son Xavier (Zion’s twin brother) went back to Heaven.

The Ministry
It became clear that God’s hand was upon the ministry of this young man’s life. Pastor Johnson was called by God to preach His Word at the age of 18 and was licensed to preach on October 10, 1993 and ordained on Sunday, October 20, 1996, under the leadership of Pastor Charlie Bates, Jr. at the Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church (formerly known as Mt. Erie Baptist Church) in Jamesburg, New Jersey.  While there he humbly served as the Assistant to the Pastor and Youth Pastor.  Pastor Johnson also graciously served as the Youth Minister of the Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey where The Rev. Dr. T.H. Rankin, Jr., is Pastor and Founder.  His ministry exhibits the Wisdom of Solomon, the meekness of Bartholomew, the talent of David, the boldness of Peter, and the shepherd’s heart of Paul.  Reverend Johnson is blessed to have the three mentors who shared with him knowledge and wisdom like Paul shared with Timothy.  They are Pastor Charlie Bates, Jr., Pastor T.H. Rankin, Jr., and the late Pastor James R. Kirk.

The Matriculation
He attended public schools and is a graduate of the Hightstown High School.  He matriculated at the Mercer County Community College at the James Kearney Campus in Trenton, New Jersey, as well as the Andersonville Baptist Seminary of Camilla, Georgia.  He further developed his education at the oldest historically black college Lincoln University of Pennsylvania; a college/ University noted for leading the way in providing Blacks with higher education.  Reverend Johnson earned a Masters of Human Services degree.  He joined the ranks of distinguished and accomplished individuals who have shaped their millennium -U.S. Supreme Court Justice, Thurgood Marshall; Harlem Renaissance poet, Langston Hughes; musical legend, Cab Calloway; the first President of Nigeria, Nnamdi Azikiwe; the first President of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah;.  Pastor Johnson seeks to live up to Lincoln’s standard, “Producing Leaders That Shape a New Millennium,” and impact his community.

The Pastor
In the summer of 2003 Pastor Johnson was invited to preach at the New Hope Baptist Church of Manitou Park in South Toms River, New Jersey.  His plans to continue on the evangelism field were interrupted when he accepted the call to pastor New Hope on February 27, 2004.  As Under Shepherd the church experienced a productive ministry growing both numerically and financially.  His vision called for the development of disciples and the birth of more than ten ministries. Not only did the spiritual structure change so did the physical.  The entire church had undergone a total renovation which was debt free, along with the purchase of a Hammond organ and a fifteen passenger van to name a few.  Pastor Johnson served New Hope faithfully for almost 10 years, he submitted his resignation in the summer of 2013.

There was to be another elevation on this journey. In Jeremiah 3:15, the Lord said: And I will give you pastors, according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.”  On June 8, 2013, the Lord “Gave” Reverend Conway C. Johnson, Jr. to Pastor the historical Sharon Baptist Church in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Under his anointed leadership the church had experienced a fruitful ministry.  The membership has increased substantially, the spiritual climate continues to escalate as the congregation works collectively in accordance with his vision which develops disciples.  Skilled in leadership qualities, Pastor Johnson orchestrates and overseas several major revitalization and modernization projects.

Pastor Johnson is constantly equipping himself that he may be available in the service of the LORD.  He is a progressive leader, a man after God’s own heart with vision, a Christian Statesman, who has served the people well with distinction and credibility.  A seasoned leader and a decision maker widely recognized by his peers in religious and community circles.
